Health department internship

Anyone looking for information about interning for a health department here is some basic info on what you might be doing. This was my experience
Internship for the Virginia State Health Department.
Worked for the environmental health sector reviewing regulations and policies affecting food establishments
and investigating reports of food illnesses.
Shadowed the Well and Sewage inspector for two days testing public water supplies and private wells as well as permitting a private well at home under construction. Also monitored the drilling of a new well
Worked with family planning and birth control coming up with new ideas to promote Marriage before sex. Specifically working on a contest for teens to come up with a slogan to be put on billboards. The winner received a new Jeep Wrangler. Marriage before the Carriage was the winning slogan
Put together data and statistics reports for Abortion, Bioterrorism, Breastfeeding, Campylobacter, Early Syphilis, Flu Surveillance, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Health Birth, Index, Hep A, Hep B, HIV/AIDS, Lead, Legionellosis, Lyme Disease, Meningococcal Infections using Power Point and Excel. Also composed statistics reports on Non-marital Births, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Salmonellosis, Shigellosis, Smallpox, and Tuberculosis. Compiled comparison reports on Mortality Rates for the following counties Augusta County, Bath County, , Harrisonburg, Highland County, Lexington, Rockbridge, Rockingham, Staunton and Waynesboro.
Shadowed rabies program field inspector investigating possible cases of rabies exposure. Insuring rabies exposed animals remain in proper quarantine until a determination can be made for rabies infection. Proper handling of infected animals.
Composed statistical data reports for teen pregnancy rates from 1987 to 2001 using Excel and Power Point
Worked with WIC(Women, Infant, and Children) Program learning services and products offered.
Worked with the Dental program to help promote importance of good dental health and good oral hygiene.
